Christmas Poppy Seed Cake

During the Christmas holidays in Poland, beside the gingerbreads we bake sweets filled with poppy seeds, rum and dry fruits. Oh, there is so many of them! Delicious cheesecake, layer cake, bread plait and buns. When I was a little girl we had all this sweets on our Christmas table, now I bake just one...or two.

Hey guys, how have you been? I totally abounded my blog this month. But when I turn the calendar page to 1st of December, I'm getting straight into the "planet crazy". This is the time of the year that I wish my days were much longer, I had an extra pair of hands, and ability of working with a speed of light :)

Borscht with Dried Prunes and Mushroom Dumplings



Borscht is a soup that is very common in Eastern Europe cuisine. You can find various recipes, a chunky version, with cabbage and beans, served with a dollop of sour cream - my childhood nightmare; cold, summer borscht blended with buttermilk or kefir, eaten with hard boiled egg and sprinkled with chives; or a clear ruby broth served with mushroom dumplings - in my home served always during Christmas Eve dinner.
